On Novermber 1st, MSc student Yanming Wu successfully graduated from the TU/e VCA group, with a thesis on reducing the influence of cluttered backgrounds on person detection. This work was carried out at ViNotion BV. This company has a person counting system for city events and festivals, and defined the project to make the person counting more reliable. Yanming made an algorithm that improved indeed the detection robustness by learning specific structures like stair cases and was able to improve the detection with 6-17%. We say thanks to Gijs Dubbelman who handed out the certificate. Congratulations to Yanming Wu!
