Biography: 

Ronald Saeijs obtained his MSc Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in 1986. For more than 20 years he worked in Research and Development at Philips Electronics, in several domains: design methods for large asynchronous digital circuits by way of silicon programming, concepts and standards for digital video recording on magnetic and optical storage systems, digital image processing for perceptive quality improvement, and image analysis for face detection and eye tracking.

His PhD research is aimed at infant pain monitoring, in the STW project GARDIAN in cooperation with the Máxima Medical Center in Veldhoven. His current focus is on the development of algorithms for robust face detection and face tracking under difficult conditions, for the purpose of 24-hour in-hospital pain monitoring of infants suspected of GERD (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease).
