Panagiotis Meletis is a full-time PhD researcher at the VCA group at the Eindhoven University of Technology, currently working on the Cloud-LSVA project under EU Horizon 2020. His research aims at developing novel machine learning and computer vision techniques to incorporate perception and cognition into machines. His interests lie on the areas of deep learning and computer vision from big data, with applications in scene understanding, intelligent vehicles and drones, the internet of things and autonomous and cooperative driving.
Panagiotis was born in Athens, Greece and studied at the National Technical University of Athens, receiving his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering in November 2015. In his Diploma thesis he examined in depth the Convolutional Neural Networks and he implemented and improved a then state-of-the-art CNN for face detection. During his studies, he visited Northeastern University, Boston, in 2014 and 2012, as a visiting research scholar. He also spent 6 months at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6) as an Erasmus exchange student in 2013. In his free time, Panagiotis enjoys travelling, skiing, swimming and horse riding.
