Patrick Langenhuizen received his MSc in Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2015. During his master he came into contact with medical image analysis, where he studied a new way of scanning intestines using OCT, in collaboration with AMC Amsterdam. After his master project, he started as a PhD candidate for the VCA group within the Electrical Engineering department. His project concerned the treatment of a specific benign brain tumor, the vestibular schwannoma, with Gamma Knife radiation. Goal of his project was to find a way of predicting the outcome of the tumor after treatment using pretreatment MR images. This project was in close collaboration with the st. Elisabeth-TweeSteden hospital (ETZ) in Tilburg. Following his PhD, he continued the collaboration with the ETZ in a follow-up project as a postdoctoral researcher. In this follow-up project, other and more advanced MR imaging and computer vision techniques are explored to predict the growth and treatment response of the vestibular schwannoma.
In addition to this healthcare project, Patrick got involved in animal surveillance together with Wageningen University and Research and Utrecht University. In these collaborative projects, animal surveillance is combined with computer vision techniques to develop behavior detection algorithms. This will enable animal breeding specialists to select for improved animal health and welfare.
He is currently appointed as assistant professor at the VCA group.
