Roger is a PhD candidate and data scientist at Philips. In 2017 he started his PhD in the Video Coding and Architectures (VCA) Research Group at Eindhoven University of Technology. He worked on the development and application of machine learning and deep learning for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. His work on colorectal polyp classification spanned from research on conventional machine learning and feature extraction, to the development of a computer-aided diagnosis system using novel deep learning architectures. His knowledge brough him to explore innovative ways to convey information to the medical experts. He developed a text-to-image system to translate colorectal polyp data into correct medical terms. During his PhD, he was awarded with a Marie Curie fellowship where he participated in the ITN Multimodal, Functional Bio-Photonic Imaging project aimed to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial, and innovative early-stage researchers. He collaborated with the University of Vienna to leverage the gap between machine learning and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for pituitary adenoma. His current research interest includes endoscopic imaging, machine learning, deep learning, text analysis and biomedical image processing. At present, he is a Data Scientist at the department of AI for Vision \& Language at Philips in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, working with clinical partners to provide AI solutions to existing and emerging image acquisition modalities.
